Fuleky Pallas Late Harvest Tokaji 2012
2012 was a tricky vintage. It started with a cold winter, followed by a serious drought until February. All of sudden, roughly 3 times the yearly rainfall came down by the end of June. The summer was hot with very little rain. A seemingly rough start for blossoming since the fruit set was all over the map. September and October were perfect for botrytis with warm nights, no rain, and very little wind. While not a great year for a concentration of Aszù, the range of grapes were ideal for late harvest. With 103 g/l of residual sugar, 6.6 g/l total acidity, and a structured 10.5% alcohol, this is a perfect introduction to the world of sweet Tokaj. An absolute pleasure to drink with stinky cheeses and other equally pungent fare. Definitely a pairing wine first and a dessert wine a distant second.
